Reports

Principal’s Report:  513 students are currently enrolled at Stuttgart Elementary.  The grading date is on Friday.  We are in week 19, so we are halfway through the year.  PTA will have a Spelling Bee on the 17th. January 24th from 9-10:30am will be the 4th and 5th Grade Honors Assembly.  There will be another dance and Spring Photos coming up. PTA will have a World Expo event and The ‘Read Across America’ will be in March.

New Business: The committee reviewed the proposal to vote on a ‘Quiet Room’ in the Fifth Grade Neighborhood.  The SAC initiated an online vote for the committee members, but this was not successful. The committee had lengthy discourse to see if we would adopt this as a SAC goal.  Mrs. Moss-Beaman researched this proposal.  The question was student supervision, how it would be determined and who would use this? At this time, the current rooms have more ‘traditional’ spaces that are quiet.  There are two break out rooms during ELA and Math.  Comments that were addressed:

*Are students aware?  *Students that request a quiet space during a rotation time in a specific hub, will be granted that space. Keeping in mind that it’s not a room for a friends get together, therefore keeping the integrity of the space.  When students are in their breakout sessions designed to tailor students needs, the students would need to attend the teacher lessons, and then can be offered to go to a quiet space to work on their assignments.

*Is this a SAC goal?  It is recommended that we keep it at a school level and see if we can support this.  If it can not then it would rise to another level as it would be out of the administration’s jurisdiction.

Dr. T said that the SAC can still vote on this, and then present it to Mrs. Moss-Beaman.  At the last meeting the rooms available have been changed.  As well as thinking forward, next year we will then have the Universal Pre-K which will make it difficult to find another room.

After much discourse of the ‘Quiet Room’ and with the new information presented by admin, the SAC agreed to vote on adopting this concern as our goal.

We voted and it was unanimous 7 of 7.  We are excited to be able to share our goal at the IAC.

IAC Report:  Mrs. Schmidt said that the Garrison was thanked for their support with the half days due to the heat.  Robinson Elementary’s PTA brought the concern about students with their bikes. There will be a bike Safety training for students. There was a concern about dogs at the school’s pick-up area during arrival and dismissal times.  They have recommended no dogs at this time and the recommendation is currently under consideration.  Patch Middle School’s SAC formed a subcommittee to help address a bullying issue that was raised by a parent last year.  The Stuttgart High School’s SAC is working on ways to support The Drama Booster Club.   The High School is one to one computers and the importance and benefit of the computers staying synchronized.

Mr. Papas asked if the IAC members would like to change the set up of the meeting.  It is requested that the minutes are sent out to the members. The structure of the minutes and agenda would be sent to the schools. He will send them to our SAC committee via email.

The next meeting is January 18th at the High School.

Open Forum: There were no topics brought forward.

The next meeting is March 5th at 3:30pm.

Meeting Adjourned at 4:19 pm.
